Following the outbreak of the novel coronavirus, more known as COVID-19 with more than 43,105 confirmed cases and 1,016 deaths worldwide as of this writing, every nation is taking necessary precautions in order to prevent further spreading of the virus among their populace.
It is with this in mind that on 09 February 2020, thirty (30) repatriated Filipinos from Wuhan City, Hubei, China or the ground zero of COVID-19 have been placed under quarantine at the New Clark City (NCC) Athletes’ Village in Capas, Tarlac. Together with the repatriates who are undergoing the 14-day mandatory quarantine are members of the repatriation team as well as the flight crew who assisted and monitored them during their travel going back home.
During this uncertain time for our quarantined fellow Filipinos, it is important for them to have constant communication with their loved ones along with easy access to new developments regarding COVID-19. The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) – Luzon Cluster 2, in collaboration with the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA), have made this possible through the DICT’s Free Wi-Fi for All Program.
Free Wi-Fi has been installed in the NCC Athlete’s Village, including at all rooms housing the quarantined repatriates. The command center in the building lobby was also provided with free Wi-Fi to assist staff with the exchange of valuable information and overall operations.
