The Free Wi-Fi for All provided temporary LTE connectivity during the interagency press conference on flagship infrastructure projects of the government held at the Estrella-Pantaleon Bridge spanning Makati and Mandaluyong City.
The hybrid event was attended both physically and virtually by respective heads of the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA), National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA), the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), and the Department of Transportation (DOTr). The event proceedings were also streamed on various social media platforms to reach audiences across the country.
“The successful conduct of the hybrid press conference is a clear testament to the power of ICT to transform the way we traditionally operate,” DICT Secretary Gregorio “Gringo” B. Honasan II said.
Through Free Wi-Fi for All, the hybrid press conference managed to conduct live discussions which were transmitted in real time and at no cost, making the event more accessible to everyone.
Over the past year, the COVID-19 pandemic has necessitated the use of innovative ways of holding meetings which observe and maintain adequate social distancing to ensure the safety of participants. A reliable Internet connection is vital in making such arrangements possible.
This is why in addition to regular free Wi-Fi services in public places and emergency Wi-Fi made available during times of calamity, DICT’s Free Wi-Fi for All is also provided for events. Even prior to the pandemic, the program has supported the connectivity needs of both organizers and attendees during occasions such as Traslacion 2019 and Sinulog Festival 2020.
