Free WI-Fi for All tarpaulin is installed at the gates of Guadalupe Ferry StationWith the worsening traffic situation in Metro Manila, the availability of alternative modes of transport is a welcome respite for weary commuters.

Just in time for the holiday rush, the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has re-launched the Pasig River Ferry System on December 9, 2019. Operating to and from Pasig City and Manila City from 6:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. on weekdays, commuters can opt to travel by water instead of land to cut down on travel time.

Taking the ferry saves not only time, but money as well, as all fees have been waived for the month of December as an early Christmas gift to the public.

Meanwhile, part of improvements made on the Pasig River Ferry Service is the availability of free Wi-Fi at all boat stations and ferry boats through the DICT’s Free Wi-Fi for All – Free Public Internet Access Program.

The provision of free Wi-Fi at the Pasig Ferry is in accordance to Republic Act No. 11311, also known as ”An Act to Improve Land Transportation Terminals, Stations, Stops, Rest Areas, and Roll-on/Roll-off Terminals”, which was recently signed into law by President Rodrigo Roa Duterte. The said law requires transport terminals, rest stops, and other similar facilities to provide better amenities to the public. The Pasig River Ferry is the first transport service of its kind to be connected to Free Wi-Fi for All.

By using the ferry service with free Wi-Fi on board, Metro Manila residents can not only get to their destinations ahead of time but spend their shortened commute more productively, too.
