The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) jump-started the year with a back-to-back Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signing with some provincial and local government partners in order to strengthen the ICT niche of the country.
On 18 January 2020, the DICT, with the Provincial Government of Zambales led by Sec. Gregorio B. Honasan II and Governor Hermogenes E. Ebdane, Jr. respectively, signed a MOA that will support the said province’s goal in becoming a digitally-enabled province through the provision of ICT services, including Free Wi-Fi for All.
This was followed by another MOA inked between the DICT and the Local Government of Dagupan City, Pangasinan on 24 January 2020. Sec. Honasan, Mayor Marc Brian C. Lim, and DICT Undersecretary for Legal Affairs, Policy, Planning and Finance Jose Arturo De Castro headed the said signing which shall allow the Dagupan LGU to improve public services in the city in partnership with the DICT.
“Each and every citizen, regardless of where he or she is in the region, will be empowered not just for education but opportunities for work because of the connectivity that the government will bring through the Free Wi-Fi for All program,” said Usec. De Castro.
Better opportunities, improved economy, and an overall connected Philippines – once mere visions, now realities slowly unfolding through Free Wi-Fi for All and other DICT initiatives pursued together through collaborative efforts.
